Nymeria Session

Meet Nymeria, the newest resident of the JAB Canid Education and Conservation Center, an incredible canid nonprofit in Southern California! Nymeria is a low-content wolfdog who was found as a stray and needed help. From JABCECC: "The area in Texas where she was picked up as a stray, ruled that ANY amount of recent wolf DNA makes the animal illegal to own. Consequently, the shelter was not able to easily find her a family. They contacted wolf sanctuaries but they generally reserve their limited space for higher wolf content animals. Think about that. Nymeria was too much wolf to be given a family, and yet too much dog to find safety at a sanctuary. So the shelters third option was to just kill her.

This is where JABCECC got involved. We advocate for all canids and domesticated dogs are certainly canids. After I heard Nymeria’s story I made sure management took action, which really didn’t take much prodding as saving lives is what they do. I was very relieved about this as I really didn’t want to threaten a hunger strike…missing meals is totally off brand for me.

The bottom line is Nymeria did nothing wrong. She didn’t hurt anyone, she is not dangerous. All she knew was being frightened and alone in a strange place with no one coming to pick her up. Of course that all changed this week when a representative from JABCECC showed up at the shelter and said “come with me girl, you are now safe”.
