“Character, like a photograph, develops in darkness.”
— Yousuf Karsh
One of the biggest pleasures in working in the music industry is producing artwork for albums. I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the front cover, back cover, CD tray, and booklet for vaudevillian rock band The Culling, based out of Los Angeles, California.
A concept that is unique to this band, the conceptual photography involved miss Sadie, the young daughter of the front man's friend, and one of my soft-mount taxidermy foxes. The end result was an eerie and emotive set of images that visually represents the music itself.
The band portraits were taken spontaneously at the Photo Film Stage in Los Angeles, during the filming of The Culling's endorsement video (also shot by me). New lighting techniques were utilized during this impromptu session, which gave the images an interesting luminescence.
